Effect of heat treatment on shore-D hardness of some wood species

Hardness is an important wood property for several applications. Typically, it necessary to use traditional methods, such as a universal test machine, determine wood’s hardness value. This work reports the of some species before and after heat treatment (ThermoWood method) using Shore-D method. The value untreated ranged between 35.3 Limba 77.2 Santos wood. With treatment, decreased, decrease was greater samples that underwent harsher (2 h at 212 °C). highest Sipo (14%) lowest Afrormosia (2.5%). Analysis variance tests showed there significant difference species, interaction both variables chosen level significance (P ? 0.05). Results could be used measure directly in production line or small companies without machine.
